A Season of Forgiveness

A few weeks ago, a dear friend posted a statement on Face Book that really caused me to mediate and think. She wrote,

“It’s a season of forgiveness, a season of friendship, a season of new starts. One act of forgiveness can change the outcome of a life.”

I believe that there are certain “levels” of offense. Before you scream in protest “An offense is an offense is an offense…” let me say that this is not based on Scripture but on years of observing and counseling people:

Level 1: Offenses of No Significance: An example of this would be the “grocery cart bump,” where someone who is in a great hurry accidentally bumps another person’s cart. The bumper says to the bumpee “excuse me” and most normal, sane people will answer “no problem” or some other acknowledgement and life goes on. read more…

Fr. Stephen and Keisha Hunter have a New Addition

2009 July 10

Yesterday, July 9th, Keisha Hunter, wife of Father Stepehn Hunter, gave birth to their first child, a boy, Joshua. Joshua was born at 4:20 PM and weighed 3lbs 9oz and is 12 inches long. The baby, at last report, is doing fine.

Baby Joshua had to be delivered a month early due some complication related to Keisha’s health. Keisha was having issues with high-blood pressure which prompted the doctors to deliver the baby early. Keisha made it through surgery fine as did the baby and so did the father, we hear.

Please keep Baby Joshua, Keisha, and Fr. Stephen in prayer. Visitation is not encouraged at this time as Keisha is still recovering from the surgery. However, reports (and hopefully pictures) will be forthcoming over the next few days.

Congratulations Fr. Stephen and Keisha!

The Rev’d Father Stephen Hunter is the vicar of Christ the Redeemer Church in Canton, Georgia.

After marrying Sergeant Michael “Joey” Wayt, a United States Marine stationed in her home country of Japan, Manami began reading the Bible to learn more about her husband’s religion.  When Sgt. Wayt and his family were transferred to the United States back in May, they had the opportunity to visit with his family in Georgia and to attend Sgt. Wayt’s home church, St. Andrew’s.  Manami greatly enjoyed the worship service and the welcome she received at St. Andrew’s paying careful attention to every aspect of the service.  Later, while traveling to their new home near Kanses City, Manami prayed for the first time and asked God to help her know whether Christianity was true or not.  That very night, she explains, she had a vision of the Cross and a large number of people gathered around the foot of the Cross.  She took this for an answer to her prayer and continued her study of the Scripture making a point to ask her husband some very challenging questions.  Shortly thereafter, Manami prayed with her husband and gave her life to Christ.

Having the opportunity to visit family in Georgia for the holiday weekend, Sgt. Wayt contacted Father Randall Allen, rector of St. Andrew’s, and asked  if his wife and two children might be baptized while they were in town.  On Sunday, July 5th, with great joy and rejoicing, Manami and the two boys, Asahi and Haruhi, were baptized and began their new life as part of the family of God.

Being Who You Are

Being a parent is a scary endeavor, at least for me.  God blesses you with these tiny little miracles and, without a lot of instruction, you’re suddenly responsible for everything – feeding them, bathing them, changing their diapers, teaching them.  It would be a lot more comforting if they came with an owner’s manual.  I’m just saying…

Just like the rest of us, each child is gifted with special talents and gifts from God.  One thing that Justin and I continually work to do is to call out those gifts in Madelyn and Seth.  Even at a young age, you can see where their strengths are and what their personality draws them towards.  Those things should be encouraged.  It builds their confidence, it shows them how they are wired and directs them towards God’s purpose for their life. read more…

Gadgets and Do-Dads

We had a bit of a crisis recently. On the weekend of July 4, our cable TV went out, our Internet connection was lost, and I misplaced my cell phone. I couldn’t have been more isolated if I had gone to  Alaska where Sarah Palin can see Russia from her porch. Without television, I received no news, no weather reports, and could not watch my favorite programs. Without Internet, I couldn’t communicate or check up on people, and without cell phone service, I was simply alone and isolated from humanity. Except for my wife, of course, but she was out tending to things like the beauty shop and the supermarket.

I remember the days before all those gadgets determined our fate. Once, I drove to Atlanta to see someone in the hospital. After my visit, I returned to the church office only to be informed that another church member had been admitted to that very same hospital at the very time I was there. I turned around and drove back to Atlanta. That was the day I ordered a pager. Later I would get a mobile phone, which is not to be confused with a cell phone. A mobile phone looked something like the communication device used by the military in World War II. It was “portable” in the sense it could be installed in the car and was the size of a lunch box–only much heavier.
